Hanoi (VNA) – The 15th National Assembly convened its first session on July 20 following an opening ceremony broadcast live on channels of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV1), Vietnam Television (VTV), and NA Television.

Following the opening remarks by Chairman of the 14th NA Vuong Dinh Hue, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a speech at the session.

Tran Thanh Man, Vice Chairman of the 14th NA and deputy head of the National Election Council, then presented a report reviewing the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 term.

Another report on the verification of the eligibility of deputies to the 15th NA was also presented.

In the afternoon, the legislator elected Chairman of the 15th NA by secret ballots. They then voted to pass a resolution on the election of the NA Chairman. Hue, who was elected for the post, sworn in and delivered a speech.

The legislature then elected Vice Chairpersons and members of the 15th NA Standing Committee by secret ballots.

On July 21, lawmakers are set to conduct procedures to elect the NA General Secretary, the Chairperson of the Ethnic Council, Chairpersons of the NA Committees, and the Auditor General of the State Audit Office.

The NA will hear a proposal on and discuss the legislature’s 2022 supervision programme, and a proposal on and deliberate the law and ordinance building programme for 2022. Adjustments to the 2021 law and ordinance building programme will also be tabled./.
