The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) officially opened at 8 am on January 26 at the National Convention Centre in the capital city of Hanoi.

The 12th Party Congress has been marked by a number of significant achievements. The five-year term saw Party building and rectification enhanced, the macro-economy stabilised, national defence and security consolidated, and external relations expanded.
The 10th National Party Congress took place from April 18 to 25 in Hanoi. The congress held that after 20 years of renewal, Vietnam has achieved great achievements of historical significance.
The ninth National Party Congress convened in Hanoi from April 19-22, 2001. The event reviewed 15 years of renewal and drew lessons from the process, thus drawing up and perfecting guidelines and defining national development strategies for the first two decades of the 21st century.
The eighth National Party Congress took place from June 28 to July 1, 1996 in Hanoi. Do Muoi was re-elected as Party General Secretary.
The seventh National Party Congress is the first to adopt the platform of building the country during the transition to socialism in Vietnam.
In the spirit of “looking straight at the truth, evaluating the truth properly and speaking the truth”, the sixth National Party Congress affirmed the determination to reform the Party’s leadership in the spirit of revolution and science.
The second National Party Congress was held in Kim Binh commune, Chiem Hoa district, in Tuyen Quang province in February 1951 - the first and only Congress to be organised outside of Hanoi. The Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam was held from March 27-31, 1982 in Hanoi. The Congress reviewed the victories that the Party and people have won in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland since 1975.
The fourth National Party Congress held from December 14-20, 1976, reviewed the resistance war against the US imperialists for national salvation, and guiding the nation towards socialism.
The third National Party Congress took place on September 5-10, 1960 in Hanoi to review 30 years of Party leadership and put forth theoretical and practical lessons of the Vietnamese revolution under the Party’s leadership.
