Vietnam’s Multidimensional Poverty Index ranks 31st out of the 105 countries surveyed in Human Development Indices (HDI).

Vietnam’s Multidimensional Poverty Index ranks 31st out of the 105 countries surveyed in Human Development Indices (HDI): Statistical Update 2018 of the United Nations Development Programme.

Vietnam has helped 6 million people escape poverty from 2012 to 2016 under national multidimensional poverty standards, according to the Update which was released on October 17.

In the document, Vietnam ranks 116th in terms of Human Development Index, placing it in the upper-medium group of 189 surveyed countries.

Despite improvements in multidimensional poverty indexes, there remains a wide gap among different localities and also social strata.

According to experts, Vietnam still needs to focus on the health and quality of skilled labour force and then come up with policy adjustments.-VNA
