Dong Thap (VNA) – Ngo Chi Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, has been appointed Secretary of the Dong Thap provincial Party Committee for the 2025–2030 tenure.
The decision was announced on October 1 at the opening of the first provincial Party Congress, following the Mekong Delta province's merger with Tien Giang province.
The new provincial Party Committee comprises 53 members, with 16 in its Standing Board. Four deputy secretaries are Nguyen Hai Tram, Chau Thi My Phuong, Tran Tri Quang, and Phan Van Thang.
Addressing the congress, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of its Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation Nguyen Trong Nghia praised the achievements of the province in the previous tenure. He urged the local Party Committee to prioritise building a clean and strong Party and political system to create solidarity, while placing the economy at the centre, fully tapping new development spaces, and promoting Dong Thap’s image.
He asked the province to embrace new thinking, fresh vision, and updated knowledge in leadership, policy-making, and implementation, while focusing on enhancing the political firmness, intellectual capacity, exemplary role, and fighting spirit of Party committees, organisations, and Party members, especially leaders and key management officials at all levels.
In his remarks, Cuong expressed gratitude to the Politburo and Secretariat for their trust. He pledged to uphold unity, build on past achievements, follow Party principles, promote collective wisdom and individual responsibility, and drive innovation to successfully implement the Congress’s Resolution.
The congress, attended by 450 delegates representing over 120,000 Party members, will set development directions for Dong Thap through 2030.
Reports presented at the event show that over the past five years, the province achieved and surpassed 17 of 23 set targets, with an average gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 5.51% and per capita GRDP of 85.5 million VND (approximately 3,600 USD).
