-1939: Joining Dang Cong san Dong Duong (Communist Party of Indochina, now the Communist Party of Vietnam)

-1941: Arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison, imprisoned at Hoa Lo Prison in Hanoi

-March 1945: Escaping from prison and continuing revolutionary activities, becoming a member of the Party Committee of then Ha Dong province and directly leading the uprising to seize power in Ha Dong

-After the August Revolution in 1945: Secretary of the Ha Dong Party Committee

-1946: Secretary of Ha Nam province, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Resistance Committee of Nam Dinh province

-June 1988: Elected Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister) by the National Assembly
